Angelica Hibbs is a family nurse practitioner with extensive experience taking care of newborns and their mothers since 2004. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. She began working in the newborn nursery at Tucson Medical Center in 2018 as a hospitalist nurse practitioner caring for and treating newborns with an array of health challenges: hypoglycemia, jaundice, feeding difficulties, respiratory issues, as well as obtaining regular referrals for continuation of care when needed. She has also an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) and is passionate about helping mothers and babies throughout their feeding journey. Angelica educates her patients with evidence-based information so they can make well-informed health decisions for themselves and their loved ones.
Her family members’ experiences as patients of a rural healthcare system inspire her to better serve our rural communities. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, biking and her new interest, gardening.
Stacy Peercy got her start with the University of Arizona Garden Kitchen program, which is a dynamic program funded by SNAP-Ed, offering physical activity, gardening, and cooking classes to lower income Tucsonans. She led programing as an instructor and as a program coordinator, taught university interns and community organizations to provided food demonstrations, and lead community education and outreach activities.
After her dietetic internship with our local Carondelet Hospital Network (now Dignity Health), she was lucky enough to join the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Diabetes Prevention Program. Here she taught a variety of nutrition classes and community events, such as desert foods for better blood sugar regulation along with community leaders. She most enjoyed the ability to work with all ages, from birth to elders in various programs offered to Pascua WIC, Head Start preschoolers, teens, employees and their families, and seniors. In addition to her work with Barrio Healthcare, she will continue to work with El Rio Community Health Care offering nutrition counseling and lactation services to our diverse patient population.
One of Stacy's certifications is Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). It required 1000 hours of diabetes counseling and passing a national exam focused on supporting behavior change and the medical management of diabetes to improve long-term outcomes in patients.
Additionally, Stacy's nutrition philosophy is to practice from a weight neutral and body neutral perspective. Her philosophy is rooted in the belief that her role is to facilitate, not dictate, skill building and promote behavior change in accordance with her client’s beliefs and desires for change. She believes in a patient-centered approach, utilizing the individual’s life experiences and knowledge to promote self-efficacy and encourage motivation.
Barrio Babies provides comprehensive transitional care for mothers & infants.
New and growing families often have an increased need for medical and lactation support for the first several months as they adjust to the new normal. An increasingly common term for this period is ‘the 4th Trimester’ but we prefer to simply call it a healthy start at home.
We coordinate care with Pediatrician’s, OB/GYN’s, Midwives, Lactation Consultants, Specialists and focus on the unique needs of mothers and their newborns in hour long visits that can address everything from Bilirubin testing, breastfeeding support, well-baby checks, wound checks, mastitis, tongue-tie, and postpartum depression even on Saturdays and Sundays.
