Breastfeeding Medicine

Breastfeeding Medicine cares for mom and baby together. You do not need to self diagnose. We evaluate the full picture and build a coordinated plan.

Feeding Concerns

Feeding challenges can look different from family to family. You do not need to self diagnose or decide which concern matters most before scheduling. Concerns are evaluated within a medically supervised model that considers both mom and baby together.

If you are looking for breastfeeding support or lactation support, you do not need to self diagnose before scheduling.

Lactation and breastfeeding support for feeding concerns with visits for mom and baby together.

Feeding Concerns We Commonly Evaluate

Latch DifficultiesNipple Pain and TraumaSlow Infant Weight GainJaundiceMilk Supply ConcernsMastitis and Inflammatory Breast Conditions

WHEN FEEDING CONCERNS BENEFIT FROM EVALUATION

Evaluation is often helpful when feeding issues persist, worsen, or involve more than one concern at the same time. Indicators that assessment may be appropriate include ongoing pain, ineffective feeding, slow or concerning weight gain, signs of inflammation or infection, or feeding that feels increasingly stressful despite support.

Medical evaluation helps distinguish expected variation from patterns that may require intervention, monitoring, or coordination with other providers.

How Feeding Concerns Are Evaluated

Feeding concerns are evaluated by reviewing history, observing patterns over time, assessing both parent and infant factors, and integrating findings into a coordinated plan. Evaluation may include focused examination and feeding observation when indicated.

Care is individualized. Not every concern requires procedures, testing, or long term intervention.

A Note on Feeding Advice

Feeding concerns are often discussed widely online and in peer communities. While shared experiences can be supportive, advice may conflict or escalate anxiety without medical context.

Breastfeeding Medicine focuses on evaluating function, comfort, safety, and growth rather than following universal rules or protocols.

If You Are Unsure Where to Start

You do not need to determine which concern applies most before scheduling. Many families begin care with more than one concern, and priorities may evolve over time.

Scheduling a visit allows concerns to be evaluated together within a medically supervised care model.

Care plans are individualized and may evolve as feeding changes over time.
