Breastfeeding Support Through Breastfeeding Medicine

Breastfeeding, Lactation, and Postpartum Support

Families often seek breastfeeding support, lactation support, or postpartum support when feeding is painful, ineffective, or hard to sustain. Breastfeeding Medicine provides this support through medical evaluation for mom and baby together, with clear next steps and follow up.

Medically supervised couplet visits for feeding pain, latch difficulties, weight concerns, jaundice, mastitis, and questions about tongue tie or feeding effectiveness.

Schedule a Breastfeeding Medicine Visit

Breastfeeding challenges rarely belong to only one person. Feeding mechanics, infant stamina, milk transfer, pain, inflammation, and postpartum recovery frequently interact in ways that are difficult to separate.

Breastfeeding Medicine focuses on evaluating both the parent and the baby together, within a medically supervised model that supports assessment, coordination, and appropriate follow up.

How Breastfeeding Medicine Couplet Visits Work

Parent Evaluation

Feeding Observation

Parent Evaluation

We assess maternal pain, tissue health, milk flow, medical history, medications, and postpartum recovery factors that may affect feeding or comfort.

Infant Evaluation

Feeding Observation

Parent Evaluation

We evaluate growth trends, feeding behavior, coordination, oral function, and factors that influence effective milk transfer and feeding stamina.

Feeding Observation

Feeding Observation

Feeding Observation

When appropriate, we observe a feeding to assess latch, comfort, endurance, and milk transfer in real time, integrating these findings into the care plan.

Breastfeeding Medicine at Barrio Healthcare is led by licensed medical providers and supported by experienced IBCLCs and newborn nurses working within a coordinated, medically supervised care model.

What to Expect During Your Breastfeeding Medicine Visit

Your visit is a 45 to 60 minute couplet visit designed to care for you and your baby together. You do not need to decide whether your concern is best addressed by a pediatrician, OB GYN, lactation consultant, or primary care provider before scheduling.

Your Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist and care team review history, perform focused evaluation when indicated, and coordinate next steps based on findings and goals.
